Card factory was my first ever job , and a good job that i enjoyed. Oh well - thanks for listening..
With all the work at home jobs becoming available, finding a factory job that can be done at home can still be very time consuming. But very possible. Working in the Employment field for many years seeking job for people with disabilities I can across more then one instance where a person needed to find a factory job they could do from home.
The best bet is to develop a personal network of people in the field and get insider recommendations. These individuals that you are networking with can be also helpful by telling you when the best time to talk to the hiring manager.
Do not approach the manager as you would do so seeking a job, approach him as though you are giving a business proposal. Do not let him guess what the benefit would be for the company if you would do your work from home, tell them. Be prepared not to get a offer at the first meeting, in fact expect the process will take at least a few weeks if not months.
Be dependable, always call back when you say you are going to. Besides the fish lure place I also know of people that work from home working as employees or contractors of factories that make candles, fishing poles, engines, furniture, and light bulbs. Work from home assembling materials from factories can be messy, it is best to have a place at home designated to work. If you are disabled trying to find a job contact your local Vocational Rehabilitation Center. Many centers will be able to give employers that hire disabled workers a tax incentive, this will give them another incentive to hire you.
Some businesses will laugh at you. Just smile and seek a position else where. Many factories that will use workers from home will only do so on a contract basis. Meaning that you may incur insurance cost and not have employee benefits. Contract workers should be paid hire then employees. Card Factory is a forward thinking company and operates within a fast moving environment so staff who work for the company need to be able to thrive in this type of environment and work under pressure. People want to buy cards and gifts throughout the year but there are going to be busy seasons such as Christmas for example.
Confidence and friendliness in dealing with the general public in these busy situations is essential in retail jobs. Card Factory also require those in retail jobs to be able to take delivery of stock and stack shelves so you need to relatively fit.
Whatever type of role you work in with Card Factory jobs, the company has development and training for staff so your student jobs or part time work could result in a full time career with the company. Card Factory has over stores around the United Kingdom so those looking for student jobs and part time work could well find they have a store local to where they are based.
This could be near where you live or close to your university accommodation. Card Factory try to open stores within localities so even if you have no transport of your own, you could find shops are easily accessible, reducing your transport costs. There are many students who have had Card Factory jobs so this is good news for those of you looking for student jobs and part time work because you know the company is willing to invest in young people.
You are allowed one half hour break during an eight and a half hour shift, during which if you are the only keyholder you cannot leave the store premises. The opportunity for learning and growth is abundant, however it is stunted by the fact that there are never enough hours or staff members present to allow any proper training to be completed. Support from higher level management is not to be expected in this company, often stores are left without managers or assistant managers and those in charge are expected to cope with the strain on their own.
If you are struggling or need help, you will usually find that the answer you receive is simply that you have to find a way to get through it, without extra help or any extra hours to pull your team together. Often as a manager you just have to work hours for free to get the job done. This is the hardest part of the job, and it is often the cause of stress and illness for those in management in this company. You can expect to be treated unfairly and with lack of respect by area managers, who believe that shouting at you will get a better result than offering you the guidance you require to fulfill your role to the best of your ability.
The most enjoyable part of the job is during the quiet period between July and August when there are no shop moves and you can simply concentrate on making your shop look presentable. Short breaks, lack of support from management, working for free, unfair treatment from management. Excellent management and great team to work with. I started as a Christmas Temp and have just finished my contract.
I must admit I am gutted to be leaving but now feel it is a time to have a new challenge. Okay, so you are expected to do alot each shift but show me a company that this isnt true for.
I have learnt so much in the past 12 months I couldnt start to mention it. My manager and assistant manager were awesome and great at training in all aspects of the job. Do Not Work Here. This is most definitely the worst company I have ever worked for. When I began this job 7 months ago I was told that it was great to work for with a lot of benefits. While I began as a sales assistant I was quickly 'promoted' to a 3rd Keyholder. I have regretted this decision ever since.
If you become a 3rd Keyholder aka: Supervisor you have the same responsibilities as an assistant manager, however you will be paid minimum wage unless the manager and assistant manager are not working. In some cases you will have keyholding responsibilties while they are working so they will get paid for it - you won't but any problems fall back on you. Also, you are required to come into work 15 minutes early, which is to allow time to count your till before beginning, however you can be made to work for free during those 15 minutes and will not get that back in any form of payment or break, as all breaks are unpaid.
